EU joins the Hague Convention on the recognition of judgments in civil and commercial matters

The European Union announced on Monday 29 August its accession to the 2019 Hague Convention, which allows for the recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments in civil and commercial matters. Ukraine also announced that it had ratified the convention.
The Commission had proposed this accession in July 2021. The European Parliament and the Council of the EU gave their green light in June and July 2022 respectively.
The Convention will enter into force for the EU and Ukraine on 1 September 2023.
